Coker congratulates Corangamite sporting champions

Federal member for Corangamite, Libby Coker will meet with young athletes from across the electorate today to congratulate them on their sporting achievements.

The students, all recipients of grants from the Local Sporting Champions program, were awarded up to $750 to assist them with their travel to state, national and international sporting competitions.

The group includes 18 young sports people who, through their dedication and commitment, have achieved the opportunity to be part of these high level competitions.

“These athletes are to be congratulated for their dedication to their sports. Looking through their applications it was evident that they have travelled a long road to achieve what they have so far.”

Many of the successful applicants train for a number of hours every day, rising early and staying late after school, in addition to attending competitions both in the local area and across the country.

“The young sporting champions, train and compete at a high level in sports including swimming, athletics, basketball, cricket, sailing and netball,” Ms Coker said.

The current round of Local Sporting Champions program grants is now open and Ms Coker encouraged budding athletes in Corangamite, who will be travelling for sporting competitions, to submit an application. Information on how to apply can be accessed at libbycoker.com.au

I visited 29 schools and held 16 coffee shop meetings, where I spoke with hundreds of local residents and listened to their concerns and ideas.
