In response to increasing concern about Australia’s worsening economic outlook, Libby Coker MP today called for the Morrison Government to stimulate our local economy by bringing forward vital infrastructure funding.

The Member for Corangamite called on Scott Morrison to step up and fast track the Geelong South to Waurn Ponds rail duplication project promised at the election.

“This rail upgrade will have a positive impact on jobs now and cut congestion on our rail network when complete,” Ms Coker said.

“Nearly all of the $750 million federal government funding for the Geelong South to Waurn Ponds rail duplication isn’t provided until at least 2025 – two elections away!”

“The Morrison Government has no plan to use this much-needed infrastructure project to boost jobs in our local economy.

“People know the economy is flagging, the IMF has downgraded Australia’s economic growth forecasts, and interest rates are at record lows.

“Scott Morrison is pretending everything is coming up roses. He needs to do his job and get this rail upgrade started!”

“I urge Scott Morrison to work constructively with the Victorian Government to bring forward this important rail project to stimulate local jobs and cut congestion on our rail network.”
