Community Invited to Participate in Consultation on Pool

01 May 2021

After listening to the community, local Federal MP Libby Coker has today launched a survey to gauge the community desire for a North Bellarine indoor aquatic facility.

This week, residents of the Bellarine will receive a survey in the mail asking them what type of pool would best meet the communitys needs.

Ms Cokers office will then compile the results and hand them to Council ahead of their June meeting.

Ms Coker is undertaking this consultation because she has been inundated by community members who feel they have not been listened to by the City of Greater Geelong on the issue of the pool whether it be heated or not, indoor or not, and whether it meets the needs of a diverse community.

Ms Coker said many people have come to her very angry and disappointed the outdoor pool will not meet their needs regarding disability, rehabilitation, exercise, and swim lessons for children.

At every stage they have failed to conduct a wider consultation beyond the reference group which my office originally set up to begin with, she said.

Thats why I have stepped in. The people of the North Bellarine deserve to have their say and this is their chance to so.

The survey will land in mailboxes this week and give residents the opportunity to complete the survey electronically or send it back via the post.

Drysdale resident Sophie Harris said she was looking forward to filling out the survey.

I will be filling out the survey today on behalf of myself, my girls and the broader community who want a year-round heated pool, she said.
