Henderson Supports Cuts to Mail Delivery

27 August 2020

People in Geelong and the surrounding regions will see the end of daily letter deliveries and delivery times pushed out to at least a full seven days because of Scott Morrisons Australia Post cuts.

This week in parliament, the Morrison Government, including Senator Sarah Henderson locked in plans which will see deliveries in Geelong and the surrounding regions which will see a reduction in frequency from daily deliveries to every two or three days.

Intrastate letters will now take a minimum of seven full days to arrive, up from a previous minimum of three business days.

Having mail delivered five days a week meant posties could deliver parcels everyday as well. Because of these service cuts, delivery timeframes for small to medium sized parcels could also be delayed.

Labor moved to disallow the Morrison Governments changes.

Sadly, the Morrison Government, including Senator Sarah Henderson supported the Senate vote, locking in the delayed delivery times for Geelong residents and businesses.

Sarah Henderson can explain why grandchildren in Geelong will have to wait longer to get a birthday card from their grandparents in Melbourne. Sarah Henderson can also explain why she thinks its a good idea to delay delivery times of the invoices of small businesses across Geelong- creating unnecessary and unavoidable delays in payments.

There are families across Geelong right now who during the current lockdown restrictions are relying on Australia post for delivery of goods and products- with what the Morrison Government and Sarah Henderson have supported, she wants these families to wait longer.

Labor understands that Geelong shouldnt be treated as second class citizens, why doesnt Scott Morrison and Sarah Henderson?
