An Albanese Labor Government will boost mobile coverage in St Leonards, so local homes and businesses have more reliable connectivity.

Quality mobile coverage is not a luxury or a nice-to-have – it’s essential 21st century infrastructure.

That’s why Labor will invest $600,000 to improve mobile coverage in St Leonards which continues to suffer with unacceptably poor service and dropouts.

Our investment will enable a broader range of tower sites to be considered, which is critical given the failures to secure a site over the past few years.

A Labor Government will not give up on St Leonards like the Liberals did.

We are committed to working to ensure mobile coverage for the local community is improved.

Labor’s St Leonards commitment was made at public meeting on connectivity issues on the Bellarine, hosted in Portarlington by Corangamite MP Libby Coker last night (20 April).

The meeting followed an on-line survey Ms Coker conducted earlier this year, identifying connectivity problems in several locations on the Bellarine, including St Leonards.

Libby Coker, Member for Corangamite:

“Reliable mobile coverage and broadband are increasingly essential for enabling residents to stay in touch with family and friends, and for safety.

“Labor has a positive plan to improve mobile and broadband connectivity across the community, and improving mobile coverage in St Leonards is a top priority.

“I’ve been working with local communities in my electorate on their mobile and broadband connectivity issues since becoming the local MP.

“After a decade of Liberal Government, only now on the eve of an election are the Liberals acknowledging there are problems with connectivity in areas like the Bellarine, and communities like St Leonards. Too little, too late from the Liberal Government.”

Michelle Rowland MP, Shadow Minister for Communications:

“This funding commitment is the result of the community engagement and strong advocacy Libby undertakes on behalf of her constituents.

“Labor has developed a better plan for the NBN, and a smarter plan for expanding mobile coverage within communities and along roads. I am pleased this can contribute to a better and more connected future for residents in Corangamite.”
