Our Electorate
Our diverse electorate incorporates parts of Geelong, Golden Plains, the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast. It is one of the most beautiful parts of Australia and home to the world-renowned Great Ocean Road.
Corangamite was one of the original 75 seats in the first House of Representatives in 1901 and has a population of about 140,000 people. It is an electorate that is growing rapidly in population and shrinking in geographic boundaries.
Corangamite comes from the word koriayn which means “bitter or salty” in the Colijon language. The electorate has two main First Nations peoples today – the Wadawarrung in the east and the Eastern Marr nation in the west of the seat.
The Corangamite region is a diverse one, ranging from agriculture, fishing and livestock to wineries, tourism, small businesses, light manufacturing, local building construction companies and service industries.
Corangamite has many opportunities and is attractive for families who want to enjoy a semi-rural environment, live near the beaches, and enjoy the lifestyle and natural beauty of the region.
