Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker is launching a poll to confirm community need for parcel lockers at the Armstrong Creek shopping centre.
Ms Coker said the lockers could prove the key to easing holiday delivery chaos ahead of Christmas for the fast-growing community.
The work to deliver more Australia Post facilities for Armstrong Creek follows Ms Coker’s community campaign to establish a post office in Armstrong Creek near the Surf Coast Highway. More than 1700 residents signed Ms Coker’s petition in 2020.
Ms Coker said her latest poll was in response to increasing community demand and would ask residents to decide whether parcel lockers would add value to the new post office during peak holiday season.
“Armstrong Creek is continuing to grow so quickly, and we need to make sure that our community resources are future-proof, and Australia Post will play a key role in making that happen,” Ms Coker said.
Over the past few months, Ms Coker has regularly spoken to residents outside the post office to gauge community need.
Armstrong Creek resident Alex McNamara said she would welcome parcel lockers in time for Christmas.
“Parcel lockers would be great all year round, but especially at Christmas time,” Ms McNamara said.
Local resident Joanna Pool said the post office was already unable to keep up with community demand.
“It would be really good because when you come to the post office in the afternoon, sometimes you have to wait in a queue for more than 25 minutes,” Ms Pool said.
Ms Coker said she has now launched the poll on her Facebook page to get the ball rolling on delivering the right postal option for the Armstrong Creek community.
“Once we have enough data, I’ll go back to Australia Post and share the results so that we can get the best outcome for Armstrong Creek,” Ms Coker said.
