Upgrades at Barwon Heads Airport are now complete, with a $104,695 investment from the Albanese Government delivering safer and more reliable infrastructure for the region.
Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker, said regional airports are lifelines for local communities, supporting emergency medical access, tourism, training, business and industry.
“Barwon Heads Airport plays an important role in our region, from supporting emergency services to driving tourism and training future pilots,” Ms Coker said.
“These upgrades mean the airport is safer, more secure, and better equipped to operate year-round which is such a win for locals.”
“It’s a hub for recreation and tourism, offering everything from skydiving and scenic flights to services connecting passengers to King Island.”
“This investment ensures the airport can continue serving the Bellarine community well into the future.”
Barwon Heads Airport was one of nine Victorian airports funded under Round 4 of the Regional Airports Program, which delivered $4.5 million across the state.
The completed works include resealing sections of the runway, sealing adjacent run up bays, reshaping and resurfacing the taxiway, and installing new high security fencing.
These improvements strengthen safety for pilots and passengers, improve reliability in all weather conditions, and enhance security at the site.
With the project now finished, the airport is well positioned to continue supporting recreational flying, tourism operators, charter services, emergency and aeromedical flights.
The upgrade adds to the nearly $100 million already delivered through the first three rounds of the Regional Airports Program, supporting 194 projects across Australia.
