An Albanese Labor Government will commit $700,000 to the proposed Inverleigh Active Youth Space project.
Local Federal MP, Libby Coker, said this community-driven project would improve opportunities for young people to be active in Inverleigh.
“This project has been developed by the local community and the Golden Plains Shire following a survey of youth priorities. The youth of Inverleigh have spoken, they have told us what they want, and it gives me great pleasure to be able to help with funding for this great project,” Ms Coker said.
The Inverleigh Active Recreation Space will include new bike tracks, a BMX/Pump Track, an upgraded skate park, a social basketball court and associated beautification works. A connecting trail and additional street furniture will also be installed as part of this project, to bring all independent facilities together.
Libby Coker said the new facilities would keep local Inverleigh involved in healthy activities and cater for a broad range of ages and abilities.
“This is a great example of the community spirit in small country towns, where people come together and want to get things done for the benefit of others,” Ms Coker said.
“Once it is built the Inverleigh Active Recreation Space, will provide hours of fun for local kids, where they are doing healthy outdoor activities and where kids are engaging with friends, helping with social connections. It’s the township saying we value our youth, and we are trying to do the best for you.”
Libby Coker said it was also important to help smaller townships, many of whom have experienced growth, with many families moving out of Melbourne to the country during the COVID pandemic.
