A petition calling for an Australia Post Office in the Armstrong Creek growth corridor has been launched by Corangamite MP Libby Coker.
The area, which includes the Waralily, Armstrong Creek, Charlemont, Glenlee and Ashbury developments, is the largest contiguous growth area in the state with a population expected to boom to 25,000 by 2040.
Ms Coker said feedback from locals was clear.
As it stands, the entire 3217 post code is only serviced by one curb side post box. That is not good enough, she said.
The nearest post office for many residents is in Grovedale. Ive heard stories of long lines and frustration from many of my constituents.
Its ridiculous this enormous growth area is still lacking a post office.
There are now two shopping centres based in the development area. So there really is no reason why Australia Post would be unable to snap up a prime location.
Its time our postal service stopped dragging its feet and got on with it. This community needs a fully-functioning local post office.
Local resident Julie Crees said the poor postal service to Armstrong Creek was a source of major frustration and discussion within the community.
There are dozens of comments related to the poor postal service on our local Facebook pages.
There is a lot of frustration particularly in these COVID times when many are buying products online and need to line up at the small branch office in Peter Street in Grovedale or outside the Waurn Ponds post office, she said.
We desperately need a post office in this area.
