Local families frustrated with unsatisfactory internet can look forward to a high-quality fast-speed connection under Labors plan to provide more households with access to a fibre-to-the-home connection, local Federal MP Libby Coker announced today.
The announcement is part of Labors plan to connect 1.5 million households across the nation to fibre, Ms Coker said.
Many areas which have not been included in the limited Coalition NBN upgrade will now have access to full-fibre high-speed internet under a Labor Government. Those areas include Bannockburn, Clifton Springs, Portarlington, St Leonards, Marshall, Moolap, Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale.
Labor will also roll out its full-fibre fast NBN to all areas already earmarked for upgrade in the Coalitions limited plan. That includes areas like Ocean Grove, Torquay-Jan Juc, Grovedale, Leopold, Drysdale and Waurn Ponds.
Well invest $2.4 billion across the nation so that 90 percent of the fixed-line services - more than 10 million premises - will have world-class gigabit speeds by 2025.
Almost seven-in-eight homes across Australia currently struggling with the limited fibre-to-the-node model of copper wire to the home will end up getting access to fast full-fibre under the Labor plan.
Labor will also retain the NBN in public hands, keeping internet costs for families affordable.

Thanks to the Coalition, Australia is ranked 58th in the world for average broadband speeds, and 32nd out of 37 OECD nations.
The Coalition has had eight years to get the NBN right, yet has failed. Labor will fix it.
