An Albanese Labor Government will deliver a community battery to TorquaysSands estate, fast-tracking the local communitys efforts to be among the first to achieve net zero status.
Labors Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen MP, announced the initiative with Libby Coker MP at the Sands today (25 Jan 2022).
The Sands residents have embraced renewable energy, with the Sands Owners Corporation undertaking a community-wide survey of those residents interested in participating in a community battery. Hundreds of households now will have the opportunity under a Federal Labor Government.
This battery commitment will allow local households to feed solar power into the shared battery during the day and draw from it at night cutting electricity bills and emissions and reducing pressure on the grid.
Shadow Minister Chris Bowen said the high price of household batteries means communities are still struggling to realise the full potential of rooftop solar, and its putting more pressure on our electricity grid.
Labors community battery commitment puts residents in front financially whilst helping the environment, Chris Bowen said.
Local Labor Federal MP Libby Coker congratulated the local community.
The Sands community have some terrific community representatives who care about the local environment and understand a community battery will save people money at the same time, Libby Coker said.
The Sands residents believe they can reach net zero by 2024 and have partnered with Monash University.
