DRYSDALE BANK CLOSURE WILL HURT LOCAL COMMUNITY

21 February 2022

Federal MP, Libby Coker, has slammed the news the National Australia Bank (NAB) will close its Drysdale office later this month.

I am very disappointed to hear this news about the closure of the NAB Branch in Drydsale on March 17, Ms Coker said. Its a very busy branch and the closure will affect many people, particularly the elderly who still like to go into the bank to do their banking, and therell be many local businesses who want to continue doing their weekly or daily banking in Drysdale, Ms Coker said.

I am also very concerned about the future of the staff there, she said.

Ms Coker said she could not fathom why this was happening at a time when NAB was making bumper profits.

NABs annual profits has soared in the last financial year. Its made a net profit of more than $6 billion, a jump of nearly 150%.

What sort of message does this send to ordinary NAB account holders? Their interests arent even prioritised in the good times.

Ms Coker said the closure could likely mean an exodus of local account holders from the bank.

Customers will no doubt get the message that they are not valued and will make their choices. There is still the Bendigo Bank and the Commonwealth Bank in Drysdale.

NAB customers who want to continue banking in person will have to travel 15ks to the Ocean Grove Branch.

Ms Coker urged NAB to reconsider its decision on behalf of Drysdale residents.
