LIBBY COKER MP
Federal Member for Corangamite
The Parliament of Australia’s Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will hold a hearing in Geelong on Thursday (17 Nov).
The Committee chair and Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP said the hearing was one of a number being held around the country.
“The hearing is part of the committee’s inquiry into the Capability and Culture of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), which is headquartered here in Geelong,” Ms Coker said.
“The committee’s role is to look into and report on the implementation, performance, governance, administration and expenditure of the NDIS.
“As part of that wider brief the committee is inquiring into the capability and culture of the NDIA. We’re receiving written and verbal submissions from people with first-hand experience of the NDIA and how it operates.
“Submissions giving details of individual experiences or complaints are assisting the committee in identifying broader systemic issues for investigation.
“We’re already heard from a wide range of individuals and organisations, including NDIA clients and their families, advocates and service providers,” Ms Coker said.
A resulting inquiry report, with recommendations, will be tabled in Parliament during 2023.
Earlier this month the committee held hearings in Newcastle, Sydney and Perth. The committee will hold further hearings in Melbourne on Friday (18 Nov) and in Canberra next week (25 Nov).
The committee intends to hold additional hearings in February and March next year in other parts of Australia.
The Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme was appointed by resolutions of the House of Representatives and the Senate in July 2022.
The committee is composed of five MPs and five Senators. Membership list: Committee Membership
