A NEW-LOOK Queenscliff ferry set sail today marking a fresh start for the vessel.
Local Federal Member, Libby Coker, joined Queenscliff Ferry Chief Operating Officer, Dwight Harrison to celebrate the ferry upgrade, which builds on the Federal Government's $10 million to revamp the Queenscliff Ferry terminal.
“This ferry service is so important to our local economy, local jobs, tourism and connectivity between Sorrento and Queenscliff,” Ms Coker said.
Queenscliff Ferry chief operating officer Dwight Harrison said after weeks of being away at dry dock for a full mechanical check-up and refurbishment of the passenger lounge, the MV Queenscliff ferry was back in service.
“It’s been a very busy school holidays so far and our team has been working very hard to get the ferry ready for operation,” Mr Harrison said.
“It’s important to get this ferry back into operation for our customers and we are pleased that we will have our usual hourly operation in place for this weekend, the second week of the school holidays and of course the AFL Grand Final long weekend,” he said.
Mr Harrison said the nine-week refit of the interior of the ferry saw everything replaced within the main cabin. This included new safety features, kiosk and bathroom facilities and a fresh coat of paint, inside and out.
Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker MP, said he extensive renovation not only ensured the ferry’s continued service for commuters and tourists alike, but also enhanced passenger safety and comfort.
“The refurbished ferry promises smoother voyages and sets a course for a brighter nautical future,” Ms Coker said.
The vessel will depart Queenscliff at 7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm, with the other ferry – the MV Sorrento, departing on the alternate hours.
