An Albanese Labor Government will commit $600,000 to the Newcomb Power FNC for new sports lighting for the second oval at Grinter Reserve, and for a netball/club facilities upgrade, Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP announced today.
Ms Coker said the injection of funds recognised the growing participation in AFL and netball, especially among girls and women.
Libby Coker said:
“The role Newcomb Power plays in this community is vital to keeping kids engaged, fit and healthy. There are a lot of families in this area who are really struggling, and the club gives them friendships, enjoyment and hope.
“Being a part of a club teaches good values, like looking after your team-mates, supporting each other, as well as leadership skills.
“I’m so happy to be able to deliver this infrastructure funding as it will also modernise facilities and support the historic shift that is opening up choices for girls and women who want to play AFL and cricket.
“The lighting on the second oval will increase the capacity for training and games, which will support the increase in overall participation.
“Newcomb Power is a great club with fantastic volunteers – they are the heart of the community, and they deserve our support.”
