Queenscliff families will be the big winners from a Labor commitment to much-needed upgrades to a crucial sports facility.
An Albanese Labor Government will commit $160,000 to the Queenscliff Football Netball Club to improve lighting at the Queenscliff oval and purchase a new cricket pitch cover.
The club has completed major redevelopment works over past decade, with upgraded lighting being one of the crucial last steps.
Local Federal MP, Libby Coker, said the funding would see the football oval lighting upgraded to competition standard.
“The upgraded LED lighting will make training safer, enable night games to be played in better conditions and cut costs for the club,” Ms Coker said.
“The Queenscliff Football club is a one-oval club, and this is makes things very difficult when there is growing participation from general population growth, with additional growth coming from women and girls who are now keen to play.
“That means the club has to be able to make the best use of the facility and better quality lighting will help with giving more people a chance to play.
“The Queenscliff Football Netball Club is also very community conscious and this will help the club achieve its desire to be a "green club" by decreasing their carbon emissions.
“The upgrade to LED lighting will also decrease maintenance costs and reduce energy costs saving the club several thousand dollars.
“The full cricket pitch cover will assist with protecting the cricket pitch surface.
“I’m very proud to be able to deliver this commitment.”
