An Albanese Labor Government will commit $600,000 towards new sports lights, a
scoreboard and upgraded facilities for the Portarlington Football and Netball Club
(FNC), Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP announced today.

Ms Coker said the injection of funds recognised both the overall growth of the local
population on the Bellarine, and the growing participation in AFL and cricket,
especially among girls and women.

“I recognise there is a lot to do to implement the Portarlington Recreation Reserve
Masterplan, and hopefully this funding will kick-start contributions from all levels of
government," Ms Coker said.

“I’m so happy to be able to deliver this infrastructure funding because these clubs
are the heart of the Portarlington community, and the clubs have their hands full with
a growing demand in sports participation across the board.

“There has also been an opening up of opportunity for women and girls to play AFL
and cricket, and that is great to see.

“Increased participation in all areas of the Portarlington club means we have to
invest in modernised facilities generally, to meet community and player expectations
and needs.

“The funding contribution towards sports lighting will open up more space and times
for training and night matches. This is especially so for winter sports, where you
have very limited use of grounds for training if you don’t have lights.

“The Portarlington Recreation Reserve has long needed a state-of-the art
scoreboard for its main oval. This will now be possible under Labor.”
